The I-95 Design/Build project consisted of widening I-95 from its original six lane configuration to 10 lanes, including auxiliary and HOV lanes for a distance of 2.6 miles. The project was a four (4) phase project with structures in the median constructed first with temporary road in the median. Phase II moved southbound traffic to the median and the complete southbound roadway and bridges were constructed. Phase III moved southbound traffic to its final configuration and northbound traffic to the median for construction of the northbound roadway and bridges. The final phase reconstructed the median for the final configuration.
PCL's work included the demolition of three (3) structures and construction of new foundations of 18" piles, cast-in-place footings, end bents and decks as replacements for the bridges and temporary steel sheet pile walls for each of the bridges. A platform over an existing culvert with 18" piling and cast in place deck was included in our scope. Construction of 2.3 miles of 22' high precast Sound Wall was also included in this project.
