Project Description
The Mid-City Pipeline project consisted of placing over 30,000 lf of pipeline from 48"-16" diameter. This 4.5-mile pipeline was a challenging job, as it was down one of San Diego's major thoroughfares. The contract stipulated that work was to be done at night, Sunday through Thursday, with work beginning at 8:00 p.m. and finishing up by 6:00 a.m. No materials or equipment could be stored on the street outside of work hours.
This project was divided into three parts. The first was the placement of 48", 24" and 20" pipe. Five vaults were also included that tied into the existing water mains and two seismic vaults. The second part was replacing the 6,470 lf of the existing 16" water main, lateral tie-ins, fire hydrants and water services along the line. Then 1,140 lf of 48" pipeline from the vault built by PCL to supply water from the County Water Authority to the city's flow control facility.
